my grandfather and graet grandfather were lightermen and keel workers alfred hinchcliffe for his signiture had made a x mark but my grandfather signed hinchsliff and my mum and brother and sisters were all spelt hinchsliff,having read your very intersting article i wouldnt be surprised if we might be ancestors we are in and around lincoln and hull .

how nice it was to see this article just by chance! I remember Jon, Jo and Mr Winkworth and the picture brought a big smile to my face as i seldom see faces from the past these days.
Well done Jon it must be over 30 years since i last spoke to you so i am sure you will have no idea who i am but a big hello anyway…and thanks.

Oh how I have changed. I have not looked at the book but I can’t see me ever writing a review like this now. While I would possibly would still not like the book still I am sure I would be intrigued that others do. The fact I was so damming almost makes me want to read it again now. If only I could find the time. I am enjoying a very busy life and as I have been adding book reviews there is so much I want to read again and yet I have new books going unread too. One day, one day….
